Why Physiotherapy?

As we use our bodies through time, we start to experience physical damage and changes. Injury, illness and pain become so common that it’s easy to believe it may be a permanent condition. But you don’t have to live with the pain! At Impact Physio & Sport Clinic in Beaumont, our physical therapy experts are here to provide support in your journey towards a healthy, whole and pain-free life.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a science-based health care method that supports restoring and maintaining our function, mobility, strength and health. Most physical issues, even chronic ones, can be solved by a physiotherapist. Rather than treating the symptoms, it addresses the cause, changing the underlying problem to promote real and lasting healing.

Physiotherapists have a trained and in-depth knowledge of how the body works. They use specialized hands-on clinical methods to discern, diagnose and treat any symptoms of illness, injury and disability. It rehabilitates current issues, prevents further injuries and promotes health and wellness.

What Happens During a Physiotherapy Appointment?

There aren’t many things you need to prepare before your visit; however, make sure you wear clothes that you’re mobile in and bring all relevant medical records. For your first appointment, your physiotherapist will sit with you to learn in detail your medical history, current issues, preferences and needs for your body. Be as specific as you can during this time. Remember, this is all about you, so the more you know about your condition, the better!

After your intro discussion, your physiotherapist will assess and diagnose your condition. There will be a variety of techniques that they may then use, which will be dependent on your condition. Forms of muscle manipulation, stretching, exercises, bracing, taping and functional training are common.

Your appointment aims to improve your mobility and reduce pain, but some treatments may be uncomfortable as they work on problematic areas. It is essential to inform your therapist if there is any real pain, but in general, you should see improvement and experience less discomfort following your treatment.
